In order to have a healthy marriage, a healthy relationship with our spouse, we must apply ourselves to understand and fulfill God’s original intent in his creation of human kind. The institution of the family is ordained by God in Genesis 1:26.
Genesis 1:26 New King James Version (NKJV)
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Let God define who you are. The key issues in marriage are in its foundation. There are two possible foundations for a marriage: 1) Love and 2) Selfishness. Selfishness has perverted the original intent of God and created discord between husband and wife.
Your first step to success in marriage is your own christian life; your relationship with God the Father. This means that according to God, your husband is first and foremost your brother in Christ and your wife is your sister in Christ. Your success in your relationship–in your marriage is determined on your relationship, the intimate relationship that you have with your heavenly father.
For you who are unmarried, success in your future marriage does not depend on finding the right person, but in your being the right person in Christ. To have a healthy marriage, you must have a healthy image of who God is.
God used the word translated as man to mean ‘speaking spirit’ or mankind. Our first purpose is to fellowship with him. He made man and woman to be equal and to live in harmony in their marriage.
