Jesus instructed his disciples to wait for the power promise, the baptism or immersion of the Holy Spirit that would be their advantage.
John 16:7 New King James Version (NKJV)
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
You have an advantage if you choose to exercise the power that the advantage gives you. How do we wake that advantage up? Through faith and truth.
For forty days after his resurrection Jesus continued to assemble with his disciples and teach them and proving to over 500 people that the resurrection is real.
Jesus himself is receiving direction and guidance from the Holy Spirit. Shouldn’t we also receive commands from the Holy Spirit? Shouldn’t we listen to the counsel of the Holy Spirit?
The power promise was presented by Luke in the book of Acts.
Acts 1:1-6 New King James Version (NKJV)
1 The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
The Holy Spirit Promised
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
Wait for the promise of the Father. Go to the place where God tells you and tarry there.
There is a filling, immersion that will come once you are baptized with the Holy Spirit. You are going to be endued with power of which you have never experienced before. You’ve never had access to it before.
This is what Jesus was telling them. But they were more interested in the restoration of the kingdom to Israel. They were blind to the fact that the kingdom was within them.
Jesus will always direct you to the truth. And if you ask for something else, Jesus will say you are not ready for that.
There are some things that you are believing for and you gotta go back to the promises. Just as with the promises God made to Abraham, you need to trust the Lord will provide those things he has promised.
